UCP Merchant Onboarding

Merchants must complete several configuration steps before enabling UCP checkout on Google AI surfaces.

​​ Google Merchant Center configuration

Step Details
1. Account setup Merchant Center account in good standing with approved products for free listings
2. Return policy Configure return cost, return window, and link to full policy. Advanced accounts (Merchant Center multi-seller accounts) configure per sub-account
3. Customer support Set contact information for “Contact Merchant” link on order confirmation
4. Waitlist enrollment Join Google’s waitlist for explicit approval before going live on AI surfaces

​​ Product feed configuration

Attributes must be provided via supplemental feed, Content API (products.insert), or Merchant API (productInputs.insert):

native_commerce: true Yes Opts product into checkout experience
merchant_item_id If IDs differ Maps feed product ID to Checkout API ID
consumer_notice For regulated items Prop 65, safety warnings (max 1000 chars, supports <b>, <br>, <i>)

​​ Excluded product categories

The following product types are not eligible for UCP checkout:

  • Subscriptions
  • Personalized / customized goods
  • Pre-orders
  • Age-restricted items
  • Services and rentals

​​ Firmly-specific onboarding

For Firmly merchants to enable UCP:

Step Details
1. Merchant Center link Merchant connects their Google Merchant Center account
2. Domain verification Verify ownership of the domain used for UCP endpoints
3. /.well-known/ucp forwarding Configure the merchant domain to forward /.well-known/ucp to Firmly — see UCP Configuration for the forwarding table and per-platform guides
4. Product feed sync Ensure Firmly product catalog syncs with Merchant Center feed
5. UCP enablement Enable the UCP integration for the merchant’s domain in Firmly admin

​​ Prerequisites

  • Active Firmly merchant account
  • Google Merchant Center account in good standing
  • Products approved for free listings in Google Merchant Center

​​ Google configuration

  • Return policy configured (cost, window, policy link)
  • Customer support contact information set
  • Enrolled in Google’s UCP waitlist
  • Waitlist approval received

​​ Product feed

  • native_commerce: true attribute added to eligible products
  • merchant_item_id configured (if Firmly IDs differ from feed IDs)
  • consumer_notice added for regulated items
  • Excluded categories removed from UCP feed

​​ Firmly configuration

  • Google Merchant Center account linked
  • Domain ownership verified
  • /.well-known/ucp forwarding configured and verified (UCP Configuration)
  • Firmly product catalog synced with the Merchant Center feed
  • UCP integration enabled for the merchant’s domain in Firmly admin

​​ Validation

Firmly ops runs these checks against the merchant’s sandbox during onboarding — coordinate with your Firmly contact to execute a test session:

  • Test checkout session creation
  • Test changing buyer info
  • Test changing shipping info
  • Test changing shipping methods
  • If you have a test store, place a test order end-to-end

native_commerce: true

This boolean attribute opts a product into the Google AI checkout experience. Products without this attribute will not appear in the Google AI purchase flows.

​​ merchant_item_id


merchant_item_id: "SKU-12345"

Required when the product ID in the Merchant Center feed differs from the ID used in the Checkout API. This enables Google to map user selections to the correct product.
