Social platforms

Social platforms are where commerce discovery happens through scrolling, sharing, and creator-driven recommendation rather than search or editorial. The destination is the social surface itself: an in-feed product card, a messaging thread that includes a buyable link, a creator-promoted product, a shop tab inside a social app.

The Firmly platform supports social-driven commerce so the buyer can complete a purchase without leaving the social context.

 What this category covers

Social platforms as a destination category includes:

Type What it does
In-feed shoppable content Product cards rendered inline with social posts, with checkout completing in the social surface or a partner-branded surface
Messaging-driven commerce Buyable links shared in DMs and group chats, with purchase completing in-thread
Creator-driven commerce Influencer and creator product placements where purchase happens without leaving the creator’s surface
Social shop tabs Dedicated commerce surfaces inside a social platform

Why social platforms are a Firmly destination

Social-driven commerce introduces challenges that Firmly’s existing platform solves:

  • Continuity of context — leaving the social surface to complete a purchase typically loses the discovery context; in-surface or partner-branded checkout preserves it.
  • Creator attribution — when a creator drives the purchase, attribution back to the creator (for revenue share) requires the same affiliate infrastructure as publisher attribution.
  • Multi-merchant inventory — creators recommend across many merchants; one Firmly integration reaches all of them, with no per-merchant build on the social platform’s side.
  • Compliance and disclosure — sponsored social content has specific disclosure requirements; pre-purchase consent UX is documented under Consent & Disclosure.

 Which Firmly solutions apply

Solution When to use it
Branded Commerce When the social surface routes to a partner-branded checkout under the social platform’s or creator’s domain.
Publisher Commerce When creator-driven commerce sits on top of editorial-style content with affiliate economics.
Ad Commerce When commerce is driven from paid social placements.

 Status today

Social platforms are on the Firmly roadmap as a dedicated destination category. The underlying platform infrastructure (cart, checkout, attribution, creator-revenue routing) is in production and used by adjacent categories. Social-specific buildout — including per-platform integration patterns, creator-attribution flows, and disclosure UX — depends on partner demand and is scoped during onboarding.

 What to think about

  • Attribution flow. Social attribution often involves both an ad-platform pixel and a creator-revenue split. Both need to fire correctly.
  • Cross-app handoff. Many social commerce flows hand off to a mobile browser for the final step; carrying cart state and click context through the handoff is essential.
  • Creator economics. When creators drive purchases, the revenue split needs to be deterministic and visible.
