Why Firmly for Marketplace
Marketplace runs on the same Firmly platform as every other solution. What Marketplace adds is the operator framing: one branded surface where buyers search across many merchants, with each checkout scoped to a single source merchant.
What’s shared with the rest of Firmly
Discovery, cart, checkout, tax, shipping, payment, and order placement are the shared platform, documented once and used across solutions. In brief, that platform gives a marketplace operator:
- Cross-merchant discovery through one integration — search returns products across the operator’s whole merchant set, each result carrying its source merchant.
- Live product and pricing data fetched from each merchant at request time — no stale marketplace index to maintain.
- A single-merchant cart-to-order flow — cart, tax, shipping, payment, and order placement, with each order landing in the source merchant’s own OMS.
- PCI-scoped payment handling on Firmly’s side, so the operator’s surface never touches card data.
See Agentic Commerce → Why Firmly for the fully worked example of what the platform provides.
What’s specific to Marketplace
- Discovery spans many merchants. Marketplace search returns products across the operator’s whole merchant set in one results surface; each result carries its source merchant.
- Single-merchant checkout. Each cart is scoped to one source merchant, which stays the seller of record; the operator’s UI carries the marketplace brand.
- Curation. The operator decides which merchants appear in marketplace search and how listings are presented; product-level ratings and review counts from the catalog can be surfaced on listings.
- Operator attribution. The marketplace operator ID is included in every order’s metadata, so the operator’s analytics and any commission tracking can attribute revenue. See Single Product Purchase → Attribution for how the operator ID is configured and where it appears.
