Why Firmly for Publisher Commerce

Publisher Commerce runs on the same Firmly platform as every other solution — you don’t rebuild commerce to make an article shoppable. What Publisher Commerce adds is in-context checkout and the publisher attribution model.

What’s shared with the rest of Firmly

Discovery, cart, checkout, tax, shipping, payment, and order placement are the shared platform, documented once and used across solutions. In brief, that platform gives Publisher Commerce:

  • Broad merchant reach through one integration — Firmly speaks each merchant’s native API, so a Buy Now button can point at any onboarded merchant.
  • Live product and pricing data fetched from the merchant at request time — the article shows current price and availability, not a stale snapshot.
  • A full cart-to-order flow — cart, tax, shipping, payment, and order placement, with the order landing in the merchant’s own OMS.
  • PCI-scoped payment handling on Firmly’s side, so the publisher’s article surface never touches card data.

See Agentic Commerce → Why Firmly for the fully worked example of what the platform provides.

 What’s specific to Publisher Commerce

  • In-context checkout keeps the reader on the article. Buy Now buttons open an inline or slide-in checkout; after purchase the reader closes the panel and keeps reading — no redirect to a separate storefront.
  • CMS embed authoring. Writers drop a Buy Now embed into the article at publish time; the embed names the product, so most flows skip discovery. See Embedded Buy Button.
  • Publisher and affiliate attribution. UTM params, the publisher identifier, and the article identifier ride through to the merchant’s OMS. Set them on the cart with Set Cart Attribution — utm, referrer_url, referral_code, and landing_page. Affiliate commission posting to the publisher’s payout system is a Firmly-managed service configured during onboarding — coordinate the setup with your Firmly contact.
